Where there are dependent children involved in a relationship breakdown, making arrangements for child support is vital.

The law stipulates certain fundamental child support entitlements and parental responsibilities and sets out specific child support guidelines.

Child support for children under 18 is regulated by the Child Support Agency which uses financial information collected by the Australian Taxation Office to determine the amount of periodic financial support which one parent should pay the other depending on the custody arrangements for each child.
We assist parents to apply to the Child Support Agency for a review of their entitlements or obligations if the Child Support Agency’s assessment does not properly reflect their current circumstances.
We draft the child support agreements which are sometimes negotiated as part of an overall financial settlement.

We also provide advice and representation for parents and children seeking maintenance for children over the age 18 if they remain financially dependent on their parents, such as in the case of an adult child with a disability or a tertiary student.
