Compulsory aquisition, compensation and planning scheme referrals

Compulsory acquisition
Harwood Andrews Lawyers has extensive experience in the acquisition of land and easements by authorities under the Land Acquisition and Compensation Act.

We have developed systems to streamline the implementation of the statutory process, including the preparation and service of notices and gazettal and settlement deeds.

Our clients, therefore, derive the benefit of a speedier resolution to their acquisition requirements.

We also offer advice to landowners affected by compulsory acquisitions in relation to their options and legal entitlements, as well to authorities in relation to valuations and disputes over compensation.

Compensation
Harwood Andrews Lawyers acts for a range of statutory authorities in determining compensation payable to dispossessed owners following an exercising of their compulsory acquisition powers.

We work with valuers who have expertise in the particular type of land being acquired and have a strong record of effectively determining compensation disputes.

Our objective is to resolve compensation disputes without a court or tribunal hearing, however when a court or tribunal determination is required, we represent our clients and advocate on their behalf.

Planning scheme referrals
Harwood Andrews Lawyers’ Local Government and Public Sector department acts for a number of municipal councils in western Victoria and for private clients in Melbourne and other parts of Victoria.

We provide advice to clients and advocacy on matters such as planning scheme amendments and planning scheme applications for permits, Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal appeals and enforcement order proceedings.

Our depth of expertise in the law relating to the use, development and protection of land for an area helps deliver outcomes to our clients.
